Lambayeque

LAMBAYEQUE

The Lambayeque region is located in the northeast of Peru, on the Pacific coast. Its capital is the city of Chiclayo.
The region's climate is semi-tropical and the average annual temperature is 20 degrees. Because of its strategic position for the country, Lambayeque is an important commercial area. However, this still little touristy area has many attractions. Between nature and cultural heritage, in this region you can just as much enjoy magnificent nature reserves hosting an abundant fauna and flora, as visit monuments of the Moche, Chimu or Inca cultures or the pyramids of the Sicán Lambayeque culture.
Traditions are still well preserved in this region, where fishing has been carried out for millennia on reed boats, the "caballitos de totora". Traditional medicines are still used in this area and shamanic ceremonies, mixing plants and magic rites, are still used to cure illnesses.
Like any other Peruvian region, gastronomy holds a crucial place in the heritage. There are a lot of cooked fish dishes, such as "ceviche".
